Progress is the word of the week! I visited my medical oncologist and my radiation oncologist yesterday. We met to review my recent procedures and plan for the future. Good news is my liver cancer seems to have stabilized with the TACE procedures. Yaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Im so happy progress was made as those procedures kicked the crap out of me! It's nice to reap the rewards of your hard work every now and then. Now we must begin to address my lungs as that cancer continues to grow. Boooooooooooooooooo. The recent scans show the rest of my body remains clear so that is a HUGE positive. After an interesting combination of thinking and guessing, a plan was hatched. I am going to try two oral chemotherapy drugs, Xeloda and Temodar. These drugs have had good results with variations of neuro-endocrine cancer. Lets pray that my variation does not like the drugs! As the drugs are given orally, I can take them at home. I will take them for two months then go back for a scan. As the drugs are chemotherapy, I can expect the normal side effects. Hopefully they are mild. My radiation oncologist is going to continue to hold off on radiation with the hope that this chemo shrinks the tumors and makes them more conducive to radiation therapy. Radiation treatments can be given at any time however the smaller the tumors, the better the results. Thats my plan and I'm sticking to it! Love, K
